If you are unwell during an exam, please talk to a member of the exams team as soon as possible. If necessary, you may be required to obtain a medical letter to support an application for special consideration.

For external exams: no, you cannot sit the exam on another day. You will have to obtain a medical letter the same day / dated that day confirming that you were too unwell to sit the exam and we will apply for special consideration.

For internal exams: if you are unwell to come in, we can reschedule your exam but, this may mean a more condensed timetable on subsequent days. If possible, we always encourage you to sit the exam on the correct day as it is more reflective of the real situation.

An access arrangement allows exam candidates with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access an assessment without changing the demands of the assessment and are the way that exam boards comply with the duty of the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’. Access arrangements aim to remove the disadvantages a pupil may have when accessing assessment due to difficulties resulting from physical, cognitive/learning, sensory or psychological differences. Access arrangements are designed to level the playing field and must not create any unfair advantage or compromise the integrity of the assessment. Access arrangements must be agreed upon before an assessment and must reflect the pupil’s normal way of working in the school.

Please refer all access arrangement queries to the Head of Learning Support ejs@mtsn.org.uk.

Special consideration is where we provide the awarding body with details of any temporarily experienced illness, injury, or some other event outside of their control at the time of the assessment and they decide if a small percentage is added to the relevant component mark. It is applied when the issue or event has had, or is likely to have had, a material effect on a candidate’s ability to take an assessment or demonstrate their normal attainment level in that assessment.

Please refer all special consideration queries to the Examinations department exams@mtsn.org.uk.
